Rekonstruktionsvorschlag für eine Pflanzendarstellung mit blauen lanzettförmigen Blättern aus Areal H/I

Bei den Grabungen der frühen 1990er Jahre in Tell el-Dabʿa, im östlichen Nil-Delta, entdeckte man die Reste mehrerer Palastgebäude der Thutmosidenzeit des Neuen Reiches, welche seiner-zeit mit bemaltem Kalkputz dekoriert waren. Schon bald fanden die Forscher*innen heraus, dass das Fundmaterial in Bezug auf Technik und medialer Gestaltung für Ägypten außerge-wöhnlich ist. Im Jahr 2005 erweiterte sich das Material nochmals um neue Fragmente. Der vielseitige Korpus an Malereien umfasst heute Architekturimitationen, großformatige Darstel-lungen von Menschen, Tieren und Mischwesen sowie Landschaften, einen bemalten Fußboden mit Labyrinth-Motiv, Relief- und Miniaturmalereien.

Einer Kooperation der Ruhr-Universität Bochum mit der Österreichischen Akademie der Wis-senschaften entsprang das ‘The Tell el-Dabʿa Wall Paintings Project’, welches sich der Unter-suchung dieses Fundmaterials widmet. Unterstützt wird es durch das Österreichische Archäo-logische Institut und finanziert durch das Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP). Außerdem war es eingebettet in das DFG-Projekt ‘Aegean Design in Oriental Palaces – Knowledge and Materiality in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Second Millennium B.C.’, durch welches mehrere Dissertationen entstanden sind.
